BLINDS and curtains can inject style, colour and personality into a home.

Adamstown store Habitat, which specialises in offering premium quality furniture and accessories for the interior and exterior, is launching Custom Curtains and Blinds by Habitat today.

Belinda Sinclair heads the service with seven years' experience as a curtain and blind consultant.

"We see it as something with potential," Habitat owner Kim McFayden said. "It's a bit of an untapped market in Newcastle."

Habitat offers personalised service, style and innovative window furnishings to suit customers' needs including a free in-home measure and quote service.

It boasts an extensive fabric gallery with all the leading Australian and international fabric houses on show including Mokum, Warwick, Rowe, Charles Parsons, Hoad, Fabric Pavilion, Zepel and Meridian.

Various styles of curtains and blinds are on display in the showroom.

Habitat is also a distributor of Blinds by Peter Meyer.

The Sydney brand's collection includes timber venetians, woven blinds, Roman blinds, roller blinds, moving panels and motorisation.

"There aren't any other retail stores with some of the brands we have. We found there was a gap in the market certainly with the premium end.

"But we don't only carry exclusive fabrics. We carry mid-range pricing as well so it's not just to top-end."

Habitat is launching the service with drinks and canape{aac}s today from 3pm to 5pm.

Habitat club members (including those who join today) are offered a 20 per cent discount storewide on selected items.

Ms Sinclair and interior designer Melissa Webster will be on hand to chat to customers.

There will also be a showcase of the fabric gallery with a host of new drapery fabrics from Australian and international fabric houses.
